Parent Information

We welcome your Scout and you to BSA Troop 925. Those of you coming from Cub Scouts will notice rather quickly some very distinct differences.  Our troop is boy led and run.  The SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), ASPL (Assistance Senior Patrol Leader) and Patrol Leaders and their assistances, meet the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM before our regular meeting to plan the next month's activities.  They are guided by the Scoutmaster and the Assistance Scoutmasters at meeting.  They plan what training they will present to the troop as well as the game that the Troop will play.  We strive to develop leadership skills and tam work.  Scouts will do activities as a patrol.  A patrol should work as a team doing everything, setting up camp, cooking, cleaning up patrol box, etc.

There will be a sign up folders on the rear table at each meeting for the upcoming activities.  A Scout is responsible for signing up for the activity that he is going to attend.  In the folders are blank "Permission Slips" to be completed by the Scout and be signed by both the Scout and his parent.  No Scout will be allowed to attend an activity without a completed Permission Slip.  This form gives consent to travel with the troop, for the leaders to seek medical treatment and gives the leaders the information how to get in touch with you in the event the need arises.  It also is where you will list medications that the leaders will need to administer while on the outing.  No Scout is to carry prescription or non prescription medications on his person, all medications should be given to the leaders in charge.  (The only expectation is if the Scout needs an inhaler, then the Scout can keep the inhaler with him.  The inhaler needs to be listed on the 3x5 card and the leaders in charge notified.)   You will need to put your Scout's medications or non prescription medications in a zip look baggie with the instructions written plainly on a 3x5 card with your Scout's name.

A completed up to date Medical Form is to be on file for each Scout.  A class 1 for will suffice for most activities, but for long term camping such as summer camp, a Class 2 is required.  Class 2 medicals require a physician to complete.  This form provides information regarding your Scout in the event medical treatment is required while away at an activity.

Charges for activities differ by activity.  It is not the Troop goal to make money on an activity, but to just recover the cost of the outing.  Once a Scout signs up for an activity he will be charged for attending the activity unless he removes his name from the sign up list no later than the Tuesday meeting before the activity.  Some activities require that we make advance payment for activities; in that event, once we have made payment, your Scout will be charged as if  he attended unless someone is on the waiting list that can fill your Scout's place.

Transportation cost to and from activities is shared by all the Scouts and leaders that ride with someone.  The drivers for an activity will fill their vehicle with fuel before meeting to leave and immediately after returning will top off the fuel tank again.  They will submit their receipt no later than the second meeting following the activity to the treasurer.   The total of all the fuel cost submitted will be divided among all those that rode and charged to their Scout account.  Drivers are not required to pay a part of the fuel cost as they furnished the vehicle.  Scout and parent that drive together with no other riders will be excluded from the calculations.

No Scout and parent will leave an activity until the Troop is dismissed to leave, unless prior arrangements have been made with the activity leader. We go to events as a Troop and we will leave as a Troop.

You can pay for activities as they happen by check or cash to the Troop treasurer or you can put money into a Scout Account for your Scout.  The Scout account works much like a checking account.  You deposit money into the account and activity fees will be deducted.  A statement of account will be furnished quarterly so that you can see your Scout's account status.

We also have a Yahoo discussion group where you can post questions and you will get reminders for upcoming activities.  You can link to the group from our web site home page.
