- Feb 21 Meeting recap:
- Physical Skills! (Pull ups, sit ups, jumping, running). A typical meeting!
If you want to get things signed off, please arrive early. The Camp will be open at 6:45 every Tuesday for meeting with your Scoutmaster, Patrol Meetings, or Merit Badge sessions. Please use this time instead of Troop meeting time.
Scout -> Tenderfoot -> Second Class -> First Class -> Star -> Life -> Eagle
If you are ready to have your requirements recorded in Troop Master, be sure to turn your books into Mrs. Elizabeth Scherer!!!
- Cooking: We are also going to be starting our meetings early for some cooking classes. We will be cooking breakfast on 2/28/2012 and dinner on 3/6/2012. The meeting will start at 7PM, not 7:30 and we will have classes for the boys in addition to the regular meetings. We will also be eating the meals.
- Breakfast – Tacos, Mountain Man and Pancakes
- Dinner – Something yummy with Chicken and Beef (2 dishes)
- Religious Awards: Here are the dates for the upcoming meetings to get started.
- Protestant – Feb 16th at 7PM – St. Peters United Methodist Church
- Catholic (both Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII) – April 26 at 7PM – Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church
- If your son wants to become the Chaplain’s Aid, he should attend the training on April 7th at the Deren-Huff Scout House at St. Peter's UMC on Kingsland across from Taylor HS from 9 to 11:30. He should also have earned or be in the process of earning his religious award (http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Media/Relationships/ChaplainRole.aspx).
- If you want any help in locating someone to help your son with their religious award, please let Mr. Dante or Scott Wilson know so we can help you find a counselor to help him.
- Matagorda Bay: The sign up roster for this campout is due in March. If you are interested, SIGN UP! (Oceanography merit badge, kayaking...!)
- Scout Fair Coupon Books: Coupon sales have started.
- Remember safe selling practices: don't sell after dark without an adult, use the buddy system, etc.
- Checks can be made out to Troop 925.
- The boys would also benefit from having tens to give as change because a lot of people pay will 20s.
- Please turn in money for complete 15-packs
- Any 15-packs sold before the end of February will count a little more towards the scout’s personal scout account!
- There are more organized, coordinated sales days planned. Stay tuned for more info!
- Email Wanda Wright for any additional questions.
- Trivia Night: Coming soon! (March 24). This is our troop’s most lucrative fund raiser! We are asking that each boy/family sell one “table” (10 dollars per seat, 8 seats). This is easily filled with family and friends, and a great time for all! This year, we will have our Spring Court of Honor that afternoon, then the Trivia Night later that evening. We will have a bake sale, silent auction, and a patrol chili cook off! More Info.
Merit Badge Opportunities
- Texas A&M MB Fair: Saturday, March 7, 2012, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
- We will be carpooling.
- Depart YMCA at 05:00am.
- Return at YMCA at 08:00pm.
- Need to provide $15 for food/snacks.
- The Texas Skies MB Fair
- Approvals for the MB will be done by Mr. Dante and we will register as a troop. Funds for the day ($5) will be taken from your son’s scout account. You will be responsible for driving your son to the event, providing him money for lunch ($5), and picking him up.
- Uniform is the FULL Class A or Field Uniform or the Khaki/Green uniform (whatever you want to call it) including BSA shirt, belt, pants, and socks. Please have your son wear his full info.
- Selections are available, and registration is open. Please talk with your son and let Mr. Dante know so that we can get the registration in as soon as possible.
- There are three documents attached:
- A current list of courses and instructors
- The list of classes offered, prerequisites, supply fees, and any other pertinent information. Please get this document to the scouts/parents in your troop today if possible, which will allow them two weeks to make their choices before registration begins.
- A worksheet that I will be using to keep track of adult volunteers for the Fair. For YPT purposes (and to assist the merit badge counselors) I will need at least one adult volunteer for each class. Additionally, for the offsite classes, I will need two or three drivers for each class. Please review this with the adults in your troop, particularly the parents of the scouts that are going to be attending. I will need several adult volunteers from every troop that signs up in order to run the merit badge fair smoothly. They can volunteer in the morning, in the afternoon, or even better - all day!
- Texas Skies District Merit Badge Fair Documents:
- Veterinary Clinic Merit Badge: This will be available in April. We are registered for the Veterinary Science MB Class lottery. Details will follow if we get in.
